Since I don't want to have even a single tattoo, one is too many for me already, lol. I really don't like having a tattoo. Sorry to say but I hate having extra/foreign marks on my body. I have a mole on my left nose but I think it makes me look prettier, :-p hahaha!

I have 5 and am contemplating the 6th (it would be a sleeve on my forearm)
I've heard people that say tattoos on any place where you can readily see it, are too much.
I've heard people that believe it's a form of personal expression, and an art....you can never have too many.
I am in the middle of this spectrum of opinion.
I have several, and may get several more along the way....but they all have meaning and are a part of my journey through life. I don't have one tattoo, that is of a cartoon character or my teams logo. They are all bookmarks in my story. Colorful, expensive and painfully exciting bookmarks.
People that just get random tattoos just.....well they just shouldn't. But those that insist on covering every inch of their flesh is a little much for me too, I couldn't do that myself, but it is their body....

Well, I suppose if a person is too young to get a tattoo legally, or if the person is causing problems for himself or herself by having tattoos that keep them from getting a job they want, then those might be examples of having too many tattoos even if they only have one or a few. However, even if a person goes so far as to get a tattoo that is offensive, racist or hateful toward others in some way, that's still his or her choice.
Personally, I view this as I view most other things. It's none of my business in the end and I don't pay much attention to what others choose to do with their bodies as long as I don't have to hear them complain to me about it afterwards. I respect the freedom of others to express themselves in their own way.
As for my own tattoos, I will keep them down to a very limited number and they'll only be in places easily covered by clothing.

Tattoos are a very personal choice. I wouldn't say there's a general limit, as one should be able to get as many as they would like. I've never understood why anyone feels they have the right to dictate what someone else does with their own body.
In our society, being able to cover tattoos up is an asset, but I don't think anyone should feel required to keep them under their clothes, if they're willing to make the trade-off of being seen as less professional or whatever else.
Tattoos are nothing more than ink in skin. They are not a moral statement, a reflection of someone's abilities, or anything else. Just ink in skin.

What about the person with a swastika on their forehead is that a moral statement to the Nazis or the ancient Greeks.

How a person feels or reacts doesn't change the fact that it's just ink in skin. But some people get all excited and worked up over ink on cloth too.

I feel that it is a personal individual decision of a person to decide how many tattoos they want. Unfortunately, other people don't always feel that way so you have to consider what they might think, especially if they are an employer. There are many employers that won't hire a person if they have tattoos that show. They think that it doesn't show a responsible person. I personally could care less. :-)

Personally, I would never do something to my body that couldn't be undone, so one tattoo is too many for me. I know for a fact that many older people are ashamed of the many tattoos they got when they were younger, so I think that anything that would show when you're older is too much. When you're young, and have a nice body worth showing, it's o.k. to have tattoos in places that won't be covered by clothes, but when that skin starts to sag....eeeewww.
I know one lady who was a biker chick when she was in her early 20's. Later, she went back to school, got a good job, and was always self-conscious about her tats. She said she dated a young lawyer, and the first time he saw her in a bikini, he dumped her. I think a lot of the girls who have tramp stamps are going to end up regretting it one day.

I think you have to many tattoos when it affects your ability to live a normal life as to your social status. You will never get a job in a law firm with tattoos on your face but if you work in a tattoo shop or construction who cares. So I think it means as long as it doesn't hold you back in life get as many as you want. I have five and will probably get more. Each one reflects a time in my life, mostly a good friends death from when I was younger and some lettering on my chest that reflects a party-LAGNAF. But I also agree with dsdaldrig that chicks with tramp stamps will be sorry-it says something not so good.

This is definitely a matter of taste.
To me, personally, any number of tatoos is too many. I find them ugly, especially on women.
I can kind of understand marines getting their upper arms tatooed with their regiment. That bothers me less than the cartoon characters someone else posted about, for sure.
And LOL! I had never heard the phrase "tramp stamps" before! How appropriate!

There's really no such thing. While I don't have a tattoo and don't plan on getting one (way too painful for my taste!) it's a matter of personal expression. And I'm of the mind that as long as it doesn't harm anyone, you should have the right to express yourself however you want. Nobody is harmed by the fact that there is ink on your skin. They might not like how it looks, but that's just personal preference. It's subjective. And I think people should realize this more often.
Plus, a lot of them just look pretty. Especially some of the Japanese designs. Sure, there's the whole inspired-by-criminals bit (they're a little bit like gang signs are here), but they *are* elaborate.
