Plumpness, as you call it, was in fashion a hundred or so years ago. If you look at the paintings and such from then, it's clear that womanly curves were highly cherished. I believe it was because this usually meant that the family provider (often the man) was able to provide in a way that were was excess wealth. The skinny women that were tan (I should mention that fair skin- not tanned skin was seen as most healthy and desirable as well) were women that had to work out in the fields, etc. Therefore, they were not considered the ideal.
You can even see that curves were appreciated up til the 1950's and 1960's. Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 or 14 (I forget). Now granted, sized have shifted as well - a size 14 then is probably a size 12 now. It wasn't until Twiggy that super skinny became the fashion forward. And now size 14 models are considered "Plus" rather than just normal. (Considering a majority of women fall in the 12-14 range).
So for plumpness to be fashion forward, it would actually be retro. I think there is a slight shift in this direction now and hopefully into the future. And like Vic, I'm already the retro fashion forward. So, I'm ready when the rest of the world sees me as the goddess I am (tiny bit of sarcasm there).

Hypothetically, maybe. However, as a male I know it will never be like that. Men's fashion isn't nearly as seasonal and trendy as women's fashion. Much of it is for guys who are a little bigger anyway. For women, if that did come into style, I'd be worried about it quickly going out of style again. Those three month trends can get expensive if you don't plan your purchases the right way.

No, I am not super-skinny to begin with. I am at a good and happy medium, and I'd like to stay that way. I don't think a person's weight is what makes them fashionable or unfashionable, and I am confident that I could look great even if my weight was below what was considered most desirable. Just as now, I am confident that I look great even though I am not a size 2. Also, I would never potentially sacrifice my health by putting on weight, just as I wouldn't do so now by losing weight.

I always knew I was fashion forward!! This would prove it. So no I wouldn't need to plump up for the clothing. I have never felt compelled to stay model thin. I find that eating healthy and being active will get me to a size I am comfortable and I don't need to go lower than that.

This would give me even more motivation to lose weight! If I only had to lose down to "plump", I think that would make my task less insurmountable. As it is, those obesity charts tell me I have to look like Twiggy in order to be healthy, and the only six packc abs I'll ever have is if I try to sneak some Coors Light in under my sweatshirt.
I guess my answer is that I would have to lose weight to be plump. If I were skinny and had to gain a bit to be in style, yeah sure, I'd give it a try, why not.

The trick is don't look at the ideal on those charts. They are really reprentitive of a true health ideal, think Olympic swimmer or runner, unrealistic for most Americans who are not likely to work out 2-4 hours a day. Stay below what they call Obese as a fairly reasonable health goal.

I am a size 18, so I would be sitting pretty if plumpness were to come into fashion! Even in photos of me in my teens when I was a size 6 I look plump. It is just the way my body is designed. Even back then, I was told by a very charming young man that I was born in the wrong century, that men would have fawned over me in the 1800s.
I am not so ideally plump as these ladies here, but I am closer to this than to Twiggy!

Marilyn Monroe once quoted "I'm very definitely a woman and I enjoy it".
These days there's no boundary as to how thin is too thin, what's right and what's wrong; and with that said I think it would be very sad for those to look up to what's in fashion today, and place a value or disvalue on our natural bodies.
Bottom line, we should be healthy, happy; always remember who we are and "enjoy it".
