Conundrum Next Conundrum

We've been invited to a 7 p.m. wedding. What is the appropriate dress?

In the past, the invitations for the 7 p.m. weddings have said "black tie" or "black tie optional" - this one doesn't specify one way or the other. How formal should I go with my dress?

I would give the best man or maid/matron of honor a phone call to inquire about the dress requirements.

Evening weddings are usually formal but consider where the wedding is being held. Is it in a church, cathedral, outdoors or on the beach? I agree with Bunny, call the maid of honor to be sure.

If it doesn't say than show up the way you wish...

Evening Wedding
for her

* dress as you would if you were going out to the theater or to dinner.
* a cocktail dress – nothing too sexy but something fun to dance in. Black is fine.
* a dressy suit or a cocktail suit
* wear darker colors and look for something sophisticated
* avoid beads or sequins unless the invitation specifically says black tie
