Conundrum Next Conundrum
after performing poorly in my first semester of college, i've started to think about dropping out to pursue modeling. any thoughts?
I made it through middle school and high school and am now attending a college that was one of my first choices in the application process. The first month I loved everything about my college experience, I have a great roommate, have made great friends and found my classes to be slightly interesting. Over time, I started to become extremely unmotivated in my classes and thoughts of a modeling career started to consume me. I don't want to miss out on the traditional college experience, I value higher education and never imagined not obtaining a college degree. - I have been a freelance model since my sophomore year of high school and was a top 50 finalist for cycle 13 auditions of Americas Next Top Model. I'm constantly told that I have what it takes, and i can't help but wonder if i should follow my heart and go for it. Any and all advice is appreciated, thank you!

I don't see why you can't pursue your modeling ambitions AND attend college.
I think it important to remember beauty fades, knowledge does not.
While modeling may be a profitable career to you right now in 10, 20, 30 years what will you do to make a living? In this case a college degree is of much use to you. Also keep in mind (not trying to crush your dreams here) but there are many, many, many beautiful girls in the world and many people who would like to get paid for nothing more than posing for photos and looking gorgeous. The competition for such fields is fierce. Based on this I'm not saying, don't go for it, don't follow your dreams, I'm saying don't drop out of college to do so. Keep a back up plan.
On the note of becoming bored so to speak with college perhaps it's your line of study. You certainly would not be the first college student to discover they don't want to do what they began college to get a degree to do. Consider changing your major or even just supplementing it with some good side courses to spice up your routine. Photography or art maybe since you have an interest in modeling.
I would resort to dropping out as a last resort.

I have two quotes for you:
The rarest thing in the world is a woman who is pleased with photographs of herself. ~Elizabeth Metcalf
When a man talks dirty to a woman, it's sexual harassment. When a woman talks dirty to a man, it's $3.95 a minute. ~Author Unknown
The first quote, to me, is a complete lie. Every girl I've ever known loves to take pictures of herself. However, I thought it would probably sound like a perfect quote to you and possibly even inspire you. After all, you were a top 50 finalist for cycle 13 auditions of Americas Next Top Model. I don't know exactly how many cycles of auditions they have but that's only 650 pretty girls. That's a very small percentage when compared to the 154.7 million women in the United States and probably only half of them are pretty. I have looked at your picture and there's something about you that's different. I think you have a future in modeling for sure, but you have to believe it. Modeling is a career, something you can still do even as you continue to get old. School is only important to those who are looking for a degree and you already have the qualifications for your career.
The second quote is just to remind you to keep an open mind. There are other ways to make money with your beauty than just pictures, some go without saying. Don't be scared to make use of every talent you've been given.
Good Luck

Modeling is a very tough and competitive career path. I would recommend having something to fall back on. You don't have to go to college full time. You can go part time while pursuing your modeling career if you want to do so. I would recommend that you do not have all your eggs in one basket, so to speak. College may even help you to advance your modeling career if that is the pathway you choose. Maybe you should try a different college major. It could be that you were taking classes that did not interest you simply because that was what you thought you should take.

Even models would benefit from a degree in Small Business Administration.
If you are going to model, do it now. You will never look as good tomorrow as you do today.
Choose your modeling path carefully. Don't waste time pursuing a field where being 5'8" is a requirement if you're only 5'7". There is no leeway on that unless you only pose for independent designers or catalogs.
A tip I've heard from other models is "you're only as good as your last shoot". How much can you make as a model? As much as the next client is willing to pay. And finally, every picture you've ever taken, had taken, or took yourself, is public domain. If you're paid for a shoot, your interest in those pictures and how they're used is gone. If you weren't paid for a shoot, your interest in those pictures and how they're used is gone - unless you signed a modeling agreement that says otherwise.
Don't pay for modeling schools that "promise to find you work". They can't promise that, they just want your money. Don't pay for portfolio images unless you're buying prints. Agencies don't need fancy pictures, if they want you they have their own photographers shoot you.
I'm a photographer. If you're in the Pacific Northwest let me know.
P.S. Don't get (more) tattoos until you know for sure what your path will be.
