An expert on cursing in America says our cursing has switched from profanity and blasphemy (religion centered) to words about sex.

About the worst thing you can call someone has to do with having sex with your mother. In fact "most of what we think about obscenity has to do with sexual acts or sexual deviance."

The "expert" thinks the change from "May God strike you dead" to "screw you, ya pervert" has to do with the decline of the church. Do you agree? Doesn't it also have a lot to say about how we think about sex? Or is the decline of the church also related to our view on sex? Do we focus on the dirty, the nasty and the perversion (real and perceived) far too often? What do you think? What does this say about us?

He is right. Since, god and religion has been waning the last few years of technology and porn is more easily accessible...
It stands to reason that cursing involves more sex.
Humans are spending more time looking at porn than going to church!

It is due to the downfall of the church in America. Also the lack of morals in general taught by our families and the increase of sexuality taught by the media.

I think that religion is playing a decreasing role in life in general in America and this is just one manifestation. And of course, things that were proscribed by the church and now prescribed. The cursing seems to reflect what is proscribed by the general value system, and so I wouldn't decry it.
