Responsible as an adult? The same age they can vote to affect those laws holding them responsible.

I don't mean charged as adults. I just mean held responsible for their criminal actions within the justice system

The rationale for charging minors as adults is that they commit adult crimes and seem to require harsher and longer sentences to protect the community. The argument for not charging minors as adults is that children are still developing their morals and are still amenable to rehabilitation. Also, there is a fear of abuse if children are jailed with adults.

In most cases, I believe that children should be prosecuted in juvenile court. In the case of murder and rape, however, these are clearly adult crimes and, in addition to punishing them, we need to protect the public from them. I would allow kids ages 17, 16, and maybe 15, to be tried as adults when they commit adult crimes. Anything below that, I have a problem with. I further believe that the death penalty should not be imposed on a minor and that a minor should be given the possibility of parole at some future date.

I really don't want anyone to answer this question as if I mean charging children as adults. I mean charging children for crimes and punishing them under the juvenile justice system, not as adults, but just WHAT is the age they should be held accountable for their criminal actions in a legal sense?
