God gave us the freedom to choose, the freedom to make our own decisions including the freedom to commit sin or avoid one. I don't believe in destiny for we have the ability to think and make our own decisions. Where we are or what we are today is the product of our decisions in the past. Although there are some factors that contribute to the outcome of our decisions but we still have have a part of it.
So we should be aware of the consequences of our own action. We have to think twice, thrice and be careful in making big decisions in life. I experienced having to make a tough choice in life. That is to go home and quit my job to be with boyfriend and marry him or to continue with my job and career and live a convenient life abroad. I chose the former. But I admit that I was torn in two at that time. A part of me wants to stay because of the convenience but there's also a part of me that wants to go home because I am not happy and I miss my boyfriend very much.
It took me months of prayers and soul-searching to finally come up with a decision. And human as I am I also had fear of what life will awaits me for I don't have a job back home, it is difficult to find one and earn as much as I earn abroad.
Looking back now, I know that I made the right decision. Although I am not at the peak of my career but I am starting to have one albeit in a different path. And I am very happy, I was able to take care of my father when he was sick. And now I have my own family and they are constant source of blessings and reminder of where my happiness really lie.
That big decision in my life is actually my crossroad. There are things that are yet to happen but now I know what is my priority in life. I just rest in the thought that God will never leave me during the difficult times in my life especially if I made a mistake, that if I cannot bear to carry my burden, He will be willing to carry it for me. All I have to do is call on him and have faith.

God gave us the ability and opportunity to exercise free will. Our lives follow the course set by our choices, thoughts, and actions. That is the great thing about free will -- if you don't like the course your life is taking, you can change it by making different choices. Predetermination and happenstance are both inconsistent with free will and taking responsibility for our own lives.
For some different perspectives on free will vs. determinism, see http://www.answers.com/topic/free-will and http://mb-soft.com/believe/text/determin.htm.

I believe that God has a plan for our lives, but all too often we decide to leave the path he has set out for us and strike out on our own. That's usually when we wonder why life is so difficult and why things aren't working out the way we had planned! It takes faith to stay on a path God has set out for us when we don't always know where it will lead. We have to be willing to take risks, but without running on ahead of him and messing everything up!
Those mis-steps, though, often are a learning experience for us that enables us to help others. We realize we've made a mistake (or many!) and try to find our way back to the right path. Those unfortunate experiences make us wiser and more able to offer advice to others who are making the same mistakes we did. I know from my own experience that the best counselors are those who have been through the same trials themselves and can understand what we're going through, as opposed to a counselor who just has book knowledge that he can't possibly apply to his/her own life.
But God is the wisest counsellor of all; he's been to earth in human form, he knows what's in our hearts, and knows all the trials and temptations we must face:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, COUNSELLOR, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

I believe that God has a plan for us, but with that being said he also knows that evil and other people's choices enter into the picture and can change our destiny based on how we react and are affected by those interventions.
I do not believe God puts evil in our lives or bad things, but he does give us the rational to solve the situations when they arise.
