Traveling right after the terrorists attacks I found people were more than friendly and courteous. You weren't faced with that same old apathetic attitude from the majority that made me wonder if they were thinking, "If you were on fire, I'd not pi$$ on you." In fact, it was a complete turn around. People were smiling, being polite, helping one another, etc. That lasted a whole couple of months.

The smoke cleared the skies and apparently brought back the superpower ability to the masses allowing to once again be jerks.

Travel now and all you get is people complaining because they have to stand in line at security PLUS everyone is right back to that same old apathetic "I hate the world, get out of my way" attitude.

I hate to be so negative, but this has been my experience.

To be honest, I find fellow travelers less polite and more stressed and by consequence, not too amicable now, than before 9/11. This is probably due to the increased stresses and delays brought about by increased security measures, increased surcharges appearing on tickets and higher passenger loads on flights, with many flights now being handled by smaller and less comfortable regional jets.

Service on cost conscious airlines has also decreased massively, adding to passenger woes. The end result, stressed and irritable passengers.

Actually, no. In my experience, people who already hated airports and air travel just hate it more after 9/11. And honestly, I don't blame them. There's all the beefed up security, searches, longer and longer waits, people treating you as if you're guilty first, red tape, regulations, fees -- it's an absolute nightmare. Not all of this is directly related to the attacks, of course, but it's just the general atmosphere of the thing.

As far as the cabin, I don't usually interact with people there anyway, so I couldn't say. I usually just get a book or magazine, listen to music and tune out.

No, people are not more friendly/courteous! Perhaps a rare stewardess, or a flight captain, but not people in general.
