I think it's nice to add a touch of your own now and then. In that way the tradition grows along with the family history. For example, one of my wife's sisters was concerned that the young people in the family did not know much about the elderly grandmother, so she made up a game "what do you know about grandma?" and the kids gathered around after dinner to play. That sister is now passed on, and some Thanksgiving in the future I can see us all sitting down to a game of "what do you know about Aunt Julie"?
