I do...I know that it's silly. And that my wish may not come true. But I figure it's worth a shot. If it doesn't, I've lost nothing....but if it does. Well, then that is a different matter.

Every little bit of hope in life can be the difference between getting through the day.

If anyone has ever wonder what exactly a shooting star is....it is a meteoriods that have entered the Earth's atmosphere, and the light you see is of them burning up. Those that make it to the surface without burning are called meteorites.

I'm with Ritrzblok. I'll wish on them anytime I see one. It's fun!

Beyond that, I simply love to look at the sky. Night or day, there's something wonderful about it. Clouds, rainbows, stars, the moon, meteoroids, you name it. There is something magical about being able to look up at all that goes on out there and think about our place in the universe, or just admire how beautiful it is.

I wish I could see shooting stars. lol. I live in a city with high pollution. I can't even see stars, even on bright clear nights, let alone shooting stars. When I am out of town, I rarely spend time to watch the sky. I might wish on shooting stars if I can catch one, but I don't expect too much from it. I would only think of it as a wishful thinking.

Okay! Let me be honest. Actually this is what happens. I always think that I will wish something when I see a shooting star, but I always fail to do so because they are so unpredictable and disappear so quick that before you think of some wish or utter the whole thing, they are gone. Actually, you never know when they are going to appear and disappear. The time for which they are visible (less than a second) was never sufficient for me to wish.

Anyway, I could never but I am still waiting for the right moment.

Thanks

Are you supposed to tell someone what your wish is or not? Sorry, I don't remember. I believe the power in superstition is in other people believing and acting on what you say. I think the value of superstition goes away when you have to keep the wishes to yourself.

For example, I think there's something to be said for seeing a shooting star and exclaiming out loud "I wish for a can of Coke!" As I see it, you've now just make it at least reasonably likely that someone within earshot will now buy you one. That's the value.

I don't wish on shooting stars, having never seen one in my life.

But I do wish on the first star I see every night. You know: "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight." It might seem corny, but it's kind of a ritual for me. It's not like I expect it to do anything; it's just a nice way to pass the time early in the evening. Except when that "first star" turns out to be an airplane or something, but hey -- modern life has its hazards!
