When you're young, there's so many new things to see and experience. Your body is strong and you have way more energy than you know what to do with. You don't want to miss anything life has to dangle in front of you.

When you get older, not only does your body start to give out, but you've already seen and done everything life had to offer. If you still have more get-up-and-go, or your bucket list still has things on it that haven't been checked off, get going and make the most of your time! You can always sleep later :-)

Hope this helps!

Your question made me chuckle, you are very right. I can say that now because I'm older ,not so old though.

When we are young as if 24hours is just not enough to do what we want to do, even as children, we get up after our parents turn us in at night, doing whatever. But cannot do anything , as children we need to go sleep as said by the elders.

When one gets older, a lot of work , stress, etc. having all kinds of responsibility with family and friends. At the end of the day ,we find ourselves tired and want to sleep but either we cannot sleep or there are some things that has to be done first before that elusive sleep. We know that time is gold, but sleep is precious than gold.

lol funny you should ask that ive just crossed that line where sleep is heaven. i think its the fact that when you are young you dont do any hard work and every day is really fun, but as you get older, for me the hard work is gcse, yours is your job, so sleep for us is like a break, for younger ones its just an obstacle stopping them from playing

I've just been having this argument with a very sleepy 2 year old who really needed to go to bed. She was doing everything she could to keep herself awake.

At the same time, all I wanted to do was lie down and go to sleep.... which is pretty much what I'm about to do now.

In my experience I'd say it's due to how much we're thinking, thinking, thinking and worrying, worrying, worrying ALL THE TIME as we get older.

Babies don't have bills to pay or college essays to finish.

I do... :s

Because sleep is when your brain integrates new experiences.

Because children are learning more new things each day than adults, they have to sleep longer to integrate it.

But their body's are healthy, and they are curious and want to learn more, so that sleep time is an annoyence to them

When you're older, it's not easy to find a lot of new things to learn that don't fit into something you already understand, so your brain doesn't have to sleep so long to integrate the new experiences.

But your body is not as healthy, so *it* would like it better if you could do more down time.

A solution is to see if you can keep you brain learning new things at as close to a rate as you were when you were a kid. If you can, then your brain will force you to spend more time sleeping.
