How would you cope with working at a charity that was turning clients away?

Many nonprofits all over the country are in seriously tight economic situations. They often cannot serve all of those who ask for help. What would you do if it was your job to turn people away, day after day after day, with nowhere to send them?

Additionally, how would you feel if part of the reason you were turning people away was because the managers in your agency had made bad decisions with funds in the past?

A job is just that... A JOB. You know the good side and the bad and most jobs have BOTH.

You learn how to mentally and emotionally handle the upsetting parts. While obtaining joy from the good and positive aspects of it.

How the management handles its funds and whether or not it affects their bottom line, is above your pay grade. Meaning, it is not your concern. It cannot be your concern. You have no power over it and could not change it if you wanted to. This is happening all over the PLANET, not just your company.

It is a personal judgment call. Your question should be this: What is the larger experience at your job? Is their more joy or sadness? I try to look at and magnify the good side of everything. You are the conduit for so much GOOD. And, the bad/sad is part of life in general. There are disappointments everyday, everywhere.

You do YOUR personal best and that is all anyone can expect from you. All you should care about is whether or not YOU can lay your head upon your pillow at night knowing you did your utmost to help each and every person that you encountered in your day. You used the tools at your disposal, to do the most, for as many as possible... period.

If this began to get me down and took happiness out of my life to a great enough degree, then I would question whether or not I was being effective in the industry I had chosen to work in.

Many occupations cause folks to burn out and bring people to this place in their consciousness. Perhaps you are at a major cross road in your life and a big decision needs to be made.---Just my opinion

Taking control over your emotions, remaining unfazed and acting as how you must is the thin line between professionalism and being an amateur. After all, business is ruthless.
