Oh, I'd definitely clarify their mistake. If I played along and gave them an autograph, I would feel awfully dishonest doing something like that. Also, I'm on the shy side when it comes to total strangers and I wouldn't want to encourage them to keep talking to me, especially if they thought I was someone else! However, I might joke around about it a little bit to ease my own tension and help them to not feel too awkward about their mistake.
I have had many people mistake me for other people they know, so I guess I either just have one of those faces or I have mystery relatives running around this planet. So, it probably wouldn't surprise me very much if someone asked for my autograph by mistake one day.

I wouldn't be able to hide the awe of the mistake. I wear all of my emotions on my sleeve, therefore depending upon which celebrity I was mistaken for, I may laugh out loud, or cringe. They would be expecting to have this grand experience with someone they "think" is famous.
This would be the same as taking credit for someone else's work. I couldn't stand the idea of purposefully betraying someone, just to feel famous for a few moments. Trust me, they can have they fame and status....I'd prefer to go unnoticed.

This sort of happened to me once. I was about 14 and I had my hair in pigtails, for some odd reason. I was walking to school. A man who was crossing the street in the opposite direction smiled at me and said something like, "I saw you on TV playing last night! You did amazing!" I asked him, "What?" and he said it again.
I just smiled at him, because I had no idea what he was talking about, so I guess that is my short answer to this question.
I told my mom about it when I got home that night, and she told me that with my hair in pigtails I looked a little like the tennis player Tracy Austin.

Certainly I would clear up the mistake when I signed the wrong name on the autograph. LOL. No, I think I would let the person know that I was not who he/she believed me to be – whoever that might be. Of course, I would instantly try to figure out who that famous person was that resembled me so much. Then I would ask them whether they would like MY autograph instead. Apparently I have some kind of star apparel going! LOL.
