Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
If your spouse and child were both in the process of drowning and needed immediate resuscitation, whom would you tend to first?
Just watching an episode of "House", during which a woman taking a bath with her infant was having a seizure and dropped the baby into the bathtub. Her husband finds the woman seizing and then discovers the baby under water unconscious. Do you resuscitate the baby quickly while trying to keep your spouse afloat? How do you decide whom to give primary attention?

The baby.
A child has a smaller lung capacity than an adult and is likely to drown faster. I'd save my child, and then my husband and preform CPR if necessary. Taking a few seconds to reach over and pull my spouse from the water after pulling the baby likely isn't going to change whether the baby lives or dies, though in the bath tub situation.. my husband is 6"2 210 lbs.. he takes up the ENTIRE tub.. pulling him would pull the baby. lol\
As a side note: I've seen that episode. First time I saw it I was in the hospital and had just delivered my son.. I cried so hard when the baby died :(

Well... I can say I feel completely blessed to know I'll almost assuredly not ever have to answer that question. I can't see my athletic and able-bodied husband drowning and my son... he's a fish. If anything, they'd have to BOTH drag ME out of the water and save my life. I'm a bit of a kultz, but they love me.
Anyway, if I had to choose, the one who needed me the least in that moment would be the one who got me.
How the heck I'd determine that, though, I don't know.
What I do know, from my time working in criminal justice and victim advocacy, is that ordinary people really do perform extraordinary feats when under pressure and love and family and life is on the line.
So since I prefer to look optimistic, I'd say both would survive!
