Is there a reason you do or do not use your real photo online?
I just changed mine back from a butterfly but I was wondering, is there are any reason people do or don't use pics of themselves for their avatars?

I don't use pictures of myself online.
1) In general, I don't usually like photos of myself so I wouldn't want to use one for an avatar.
2) I don't want anyone copying a photo of me for their own use.
3) I enjoy all the fun and pretty computer images I can use as avatars and in signatures, and that's a lot of the entertainment of it for me.
4) I'd prefer that people interact with me based on my words and whatever impression they have of my personality based on the various images I choose to use. I think my physical appearance, gender, and other such things should be of minimal significance.
That's about it. :)

I use real photos occasionally. However, the real reason I do not use real photos everywhere is that most photos I have of myself aren't professionally done. I know, call it vain, but one of these days I'm going to cough up the $500+ and get a really great photographer to do a set for me. When that day comes, you'll know. Most celebs and public figures get their photos professionally taken and touched up. Why shouldn't I?

I would scare people away hahahaha
Well, I'd scare myself away, I hate looking at photos of me.
If I use an avatar I use a funny one or one of my own pics ( I make digital art, not paper and paint type, so its easy to re-size or use one of the hundreds I have stored around :)
And I want people to read me, not see me and then make judgments based on that...

Let me tell you that it is not at all safe to use your real photo online and I myself am a victim of that. Somebody copied my photo from a social site, modified it into a sexually explicit one (my head and somebody else's body) and tried to blackmail me. So, act fast and change yours before it is too late. Internet is not a place where you can trust everybody.
Hope you understand. Thanks
