Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
Ladies, would you like to be proposed to in public?
@Robbrown's earlier conundrum about the best proposals got me thinking about this. I would HATE for my boyfriend to propose to me in front of a large group of people, like at a baseball game or on TV or something similar. Am I alone in my aversion to this?

I would be flattered by such a grand gesture, especially if it involved a lot of planning and coordination, but I would also be somewhat upset that such a special moment, a moment that should be exclusively mine and my potential fiancée's were to be made so public, watering down the intimacy of the moment.
I would much rather prefer an intimate proposal, a moment that would allow me to remember forever the look in his eye, the nervous pauses in his speech as he uttered the magic words, the first sensation of the cold metal of the ring on my finger, the tingly sensation of joy, exuberance and anticipation running through my skin as I replied, yes. I would want an intimate proposal to serve as a frame for that, not one were I would be more likely to remember a cheering crowd of strangers, flattering as it may be.

No, you are not alone. I'd hate that too mostly because I can't stand attention like that in the first place.
The other reason is, if I weren't sure or needed to think about it, I'd automatically feel pressured to just say "yes". Of course one could always backtrack later in private, but I would not appreciate being put in a position like that.

As a guy I think this would be a fantastic thing... and it means we'd always have a story to tell kids, grand kids or gameshow hosts...
But seeing as I'm clearly not an expert here I asked someone who is, the wonderful MrsPsionandy. And she said
----quote----
Yes I would like that.... but ONLY if you'd already asked me in private first
----quote----
Which I think is a no, even though it started with a yes.

Never! Not only would it be embarrassing, but it would feel like he was doing it more for the spectacle than for me. Marriage is about your lives together, not making your lives into a production for others to witness. I would worry that a guy like that would be more into "keeping up with the Jones' " and just having a wife to have a wife than actually building a life.
I feel like people in this country are far to into spectacle than we should be. If it can't be plastered all over Facebook it's like it doesn't count or something.
I would definitely rather be proposed to in private so it would be OUR moment.

I would feel pressured to say yes. I hate attention and have anxiety issues when I am in a large group of people. So it would be pure torture for me.
I saw a youtube video once of someone who proposed to a woman on a basketball court and she said no. I feel for her more than him. That is so embarrassing to be put on the spot like that. I would be crushed.

YES! As long as the man I am with does not do it in a really embarassing way that makes me wish I would just vanish into thin air, but does it in a subtle romantic way I would then definately want to be proposed to in public.

That's romantic but I don't wanted to be proposed in public. I don't wanted to tell the world that I'm getting married in the first place they don't know us...I wanted to be proposed in front of my friends, relatives and family.
