Should you confront your college professor about a good grade that you feel you did not deserve?

Assume that your college professor gave you 100% on an assignment that you felt you did not do your best work on. You did not cheat or plagarize on this assignment, but you did not go above and beyond to complete the assignment. Should you ask him why he gave you an excellent grade? Would it change your mind about your professors intellect and professionalism?

No. Do not question it.

#1 - It insults your professor. Perhaps your work was better than you thought. Perhaps you were the only person in the class who really keyed in on an aspect of the assignment. Perhaps you inadvertently DID go above and beyond. Trust your professor, and don't lose respect for him/her. I doubt you got the good grade just because you have a nice smile or perky hair.

#2 - You need to take what swings your way. Life is full of ups and downs, and I'm sure you--like me and everyone else--gets your share of unfair kicks to the teeth. So this time karma threw you a softball. Take it. Don't question it. Take the good grade. Think of every unfair lower grade you've ever gotten where you worked hard and got the shaft. Take it the good, don't be afraid of success.

Cheers to you and your good grade! May this be the worst of your worries this year!

I would talk to my professor and ask him/her to grade you a bit more harshly next time. Explain yourself and tell them what grade you think you deserve. They may honor your opinion and they may not. If they don't honor your self-grading, don't complain, but do stress that you'd like to be graded harder on future assignments. I've done this and my brother has asked his professors in his current institution to do this for him. It works! Within days of my brother asking his professors to grade him harder than everyone else, the dean of his school sat in on one of his classes! I've not ever experienced this sort of thing, but I was impressed when I found out my brother's dean did this! Talk to your professor.... It could drastically change your learning experience and drive you to work harder and, therefore, get more out of the program!

I'd take it. College students work really hard. If that grade is what he thinks you deserve, then take it.
