What should married same-sex couples in Maine do now that Question 1 was repealed in the election?

Well, if it's anything like what's happening in California (where we had the same thing happen to us) - any marriages that took place while it was legal will be still recognized. I'm sure a court decision will come to prove this, but that's how it was ruled in California anyway. :)

Hmm... well... since the only thing that marriage really accomplishes is to legally bind the partners' assets and liabilities, the same effect can be achieved by forming a company with 50/50 ownership, and then both parties transfer all their assets and liabilities to that company, and then they sign a corporate operating agreement defining how the assets and liabilities are to be split if a separation occurs.

Otherwise, I really don't see what the big deal about getting married is... and I mean that for strait couples too.

From my own experience, the only time it makes any sense to actually get legally married is if the strait couple want to have kids, or if the gay couple want to adopt, in which case the legal binding of assets entailed by marriage is really all about getting some tax deductions for having children, and for ensuring some financial safety for the kids.
