When a friend lets themselves in without knocking and it is totally accepted, they come and go as they please.
When a friend expects you to say what you are thinking, either pro or con and doesn't pussyfoot around being socially correct.
When a friend won't lend you money and you agree it is because you prob would not pay them back and there is no hard feelings.
When the friend attends and is accepted at all important gatherings in your life.
When you can trust a friend to take care of your kids like you would, even at the drop of a hat.
When a friend calls because they feel comfortable asking for bail money at two am.
When the friend's presence is truly missed at a family gathering.

My best friend stopped being a friend and is now a permanent member of my family when:
1. She asked me to be Godmother to her three children.
2. I can call her in the middle of the night and she would leave her husband and children to be that shoulder I could
cry on. I can count on her no matter what.
3. She would be in every one of my family’s gathering and I in hers.
4. She would tell me what I needed to hear and not what I wanted to hear. I can always count on her for the best
advice.
5. She would never forget my birthday although it is so close to Christmas.
6. If she comes over to my place she knows where to find everything and would help herself.
