When you make a commitment has it ever caused you to shut down?
You agree to go somewhere or do something but as it gets close you can not make yourself go? It feels like you have committed to much?

Yes, this has happened to me. It means that you probably have a problem telling someone "no" and you agree to going even when you don't want to.
Fortunately, usually when you cancel on someone a number of times, they stop asking and figure out that you don't want to go. It's far more polite to just tell a person "no thank you" or "I'll be busy" than to go along with the plan and cancel at the last minute though.
