I am older, and when you get my age, you really stop caring a lot about what people think of you. When I was young, I used to be so overly concerned about what people thought, that I made myself miserable. At this age, if people can't accept me the way I am, I say forget them. I speak my mind, always trying to be kind, but not backing down on my beliefs. If something makes me angry, I say so. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve, and I still do. I sometimes make people angry, and I've gotten a lot of flack for my religious and political views, but they are mine. I own them, and I think I have just as much right as anyone to express them as long as I'm not hurting anyone.

I am quick to apologize if I hurt someone, though, because being outspoken doesn't give you that right.

It is hard to stop. If you allow yourself to be hurt with people's comments I have noticed they say more. So in my opinion it is best to not come across as needing emotional support from others before they can hurt you.
