I think indefinite and/or permanent solitary confinement would be worse. To have nothing to do day in, day out but be by myself, thinking, dwelling, turning over my crimes...I shudder just at the thought of it. At least with the death penalty, you know that there is an end date to your misery. On death row as well, you are not necessarily kept alone 24 hours a day the way you are in solitary. Even a few minutes of social interaction on a regular basis can help keep you sane. To me, being alone with myself, with no end in sight would be worse than death.

One is infinite punishment - death - a punishment that never ends because you can't be brought back to life, and the other, solitary confinement, although terrible, is generally finite - it does end, the punishment ceases and life goes on
...therefore to me the worst you can do to someone is give them the death penalty.

Death is the worst punishment a living individual could have. Some inmate loves solitary confinement because they could have a chance to be alone and contemplate, i read a book that a prisoner even challenge the guard so they put him in solitary confinement , then he start playing golf in his mind and peace in being alone. bruce lee meditate and do work out when alone.
