No.
She dresses like a girl who doesn't like dresses is all.
I bet that she's just more comfortable in a pair of pants and a jacket then a ballgown is all. Personally, I like her fashion sense and respect her for her style choices. It would likely be easier for her to toss on the occasional uncomfortable skirt than wear what makes her feel good.
To me, style has always been about what makes you feel your best. When you wear something that makes you feel good, you project a little bit of that feeling out as confidence. It could be a plaid shirt and jeans or a 3 piece suit - whatever it is... wearing what makes you feel good about yourself is important in my book.

She just doesn't like dresses.
I know lots of women who don't.
That doesn't mean they're dressing like guys.
Was harem-wear based on dresses?
To me she looks like a woman who dresses like a woman who doesn't like dresses.

No, I don't consider it cross-dressing, unless perhaps the female wants to be a man. I'm not judging, that happens sometimes. I think the determining factor is whether or not one gets a sexual thrill from it. I wear men's clothes most of the time because they ffit my long, skinny frame better, and they are more comfortable and durable. A lot of basic style are unisex, anyway

That outlook brings logical perspective if I understand this correctly. If a man wears womens clothing as a means of trying to look more like a woman then he is a crossdresser and Ellen is not a crossdresser because she wears mens clothing not because she wants to be a man but she likes the style.

@buddawiggi you are pointing out a real phenominum, although the question isn't getting quite the answers you might expect. Females can wear male clothes in modern Western culture, usually adding small feminine touches. They'd be whipped or worse in Islamic countries (note recent example in Sudan). Men cannot wear female clothes without insults, fights, etc with a few borderline exceptions or special events even in liberal Western areas. It is not consistent but an explanation would be hard to prove.

I don't know whether Ellen wants to be a man or not; she's an admitted lesbian so who knows? Some of them want to be men, some are happy being women attracted to other women. She could be a cross-dresser, or she could just like wearing comfortable clothing. That's not really my call, but yes, I think you get the jist of what I'm trying to say.

I suppose a person could consider it cross-dressing if sticking to a strict, over-simplified definition of it as wearing clothes made or designed for the opposite gender. Of course, that would potentially mean the inclusion of a heck of a lot of women who wear suits to work, men's jeans and other such things. Ellen is not trying to have the appearance of a male any more than I am when I put on a flannel shirt to take the dogs outside on cold mornings.
Also, I enjoy the fact that she is in make-up commercials now. I like her outfit and her funny lines:

No, I think she's more along the lines of adrogynous. Kind of like Annie Lennox was in the 80s. I don't think it's crossdressing because a woman is more comfortable in pants and a button down shirt than she would be in a skirt. I just consider it gender neutral.

I wouldn't call her a crossdresser, but this is a funny question to me because in high school we had an "opposites" day. This was a fun day where the boys dressed like girls and girls dressed like boys. It was just for fun. Interestingly, the boys looked absolutely ridiculous and the girls.....well....looked pretty much the same as they normally do. Some girls got a little frustrated with not being able to participate as much in that day's antics and attempted to appear more manly by painting on moustaches. Other than the moustaches, they looked no different than any other day.
The moral of the story is that the female gender has come so far that we already pretty much dress like men except on those rare special occasions when a dress is in order. Unless we are talking about specifically male clothing like tuxes or suit and tie, there really isn't much difference between how a guy dresses and how a female crossdresser would dress.

buddawiggi...
I was just considering the double standard. A man who chose to wear dresses for the same reasons Ellen wears a manly style would likely be considered a crossdresser.

I bet you in the coming decade, guys will start finding an attractive way of wearing dresses. It's coming. Pretty soon, we will all no longer be confined to our God given characteristics, but will be able to be freely move from one group to another fashion-wise to find the style that best suits us no matter who traditionally wore that style to begin with.
