Being 50 years old and never having any tattoos, I doubt that I would start now. I almost got one in my early 30's but just never went through with it. I guess that it wasn't something that I would do because it just didn't seem to mean much to me. I have nothing against tats, have plenty of friends with them just never got that interested. If I were to get one, it would not be for me, it would be something for others to see, like fashion. So for me, it would be like making my loved ones ashes into a fashion statement for others to see.
Now for someone else, who gets tattoos for themselves, because they have meaning to them, for someone who doesn't care if other people even see them, I can easily see how it might be the perfect way to honor their loved one. For myself, I'd rather have an urn in a private place, or a ceremony and spread them over a place that was special to the two of us.

• It really is a tragic story... and I think that its a bit creepy and wouldn't want to do it myself
BUT if the parents want to do it, and if it gives them any comfort at all then thats fine by me

As long as it is safe to mix the ashes with the tattoo ink then certainly it is ok. I can't imagine anything more horrific than losing a child and if this idea of mixing the ashes with the ink makes a parent feel better about the loss than I'm all for it.

I think it is kind of creepy!!!!
I am all for Tattoos I have 2 myself ,BUT mixing the ashes into the ink?!?!
I think the little memorial vials you wear on a bracelet or chain are a much better idea. You put a small amount of the ashes in this glass vial and they are always with you!

I find that idea absolutely disgusting, to be honest. Tattoos already creep me out. I'm not opposed to them from a moral aspect, but the idea of someone taking a needle to my skin and putting ink there just makes me shudder. And adding ashes to that equation -- ashes that, regardless of my personal friendships, came from a dead person -- just amplifies that. A lot.
And what happens if you later want or have to get the tattoo removed? Are you "killing" your friend by doing that? I just don't think tattooing yourself with ashes is a very permanent treatment.
