Would you have been able to calmly conduct the same interviews Oprah did today with several child molesters?

At risk of sounding egotistical, yes. My job requires me to be level headed in dealing with people who are irate or grieving and sometimes I deal with people with . . . I'll say poor moral judgement.

There are things that you have to do to mentally prepare for something like this, and you always have to keep in mind the good that you are doing in researching, finding, and exposing facts. In broadcast this is particularly important as your demeanor has to be cool and collected even in heated situations. . . . unless you are paid to fly off the handle like some partizan hacks on TV and radio.

This does take it's toll and I am not sure even Oprah would want to do it for extended period of time.

No! I could never have any conversation with a known child molester. I think Oprah ought to be incarcerated for giving these monsters notoriety, too. If she gave them any money for being on her show I would double her sentence.

It is no different that my job of being a counselor, or psychologist. As a counselor, we need to be able to have some sympathy to our clients. know that these people, no matter how evil they seem, have serious issues. I've been taught that child molesters are usually molested when they were young themselves. We need to be able to help them overcome their issues or they continue to be a threat, either to the society or to themselves.

I think it will be hard for me to give them therapy or counseling, but interview would be fine with me. It's always a good thing to be able to understand why people do something better. That way, we can look for solution to the problems rather than just dole out punishments.

No, I could not have conducted the interview...at least not as calmly, respectfully, and without vomiting, as Oprah did. I watched part of this episode today, and I eventually had to turn it off because the subject matter was so disgusting to me. I literally felt ill at one point. I am a teacher, and I know that things like this have happened to some of the students I teach and love so that would make it especially difficult for me. That being said, I think this episode gave a lot of valuable information about what to be wary of and how people with this sickness think.

oh heck no, when my daughter was 3 she was molested. The only way I could not harm the molester was to never be near him. Heck now 20 years later I still do not talk to him, he still prowls the peaceful little town i live in..
