Would you live in a country that provided for all of the basic sustenance of its citizens, yet still provided for liberty in other areas?

Theoretically, would you feel comfortable living in a country that provided uniform basic sustenance (food, shelter, medical, transportation, utilities, communication) to all of its citizens, with the caveat that the basic sustenance is the only thing that would be controlled and limited so as to assure uniformity in those items to all citizens. Liberty of expression, press and arts would still be valid. Would you be content living in such a place?

So we could have a blue house or a red house, but other than the color, every house would be exactly the same, everybody would drive the same car, and we would all have the same kind of fish each friday? Dr. Feelgood would treat every patient in his "district', and everyone would have the same ugly pink or blue phone? It sounds like a Dr. Suess book.

I'd rather die. In fact I probably would die of boredom. It's not so much a matter of right or wrong, it's just so darn BORING. Give me a choice please. If I'd rather buy a cheap house and an expensive car, or vice versa, please allow me to do so. Please?

This is one of those questions where nobody really has a clue what it would really be like until it was put to the test. There may be many unforeseen problems in such a system (I believe this would be a form of socialism). However, if you are asking if I would be okay with eating the same food everyone else does regardless of my talents or driving the same car or living in the same kind of house as everyone else regardless of my talents or any delusions of grandeur I might have, then the answer is yes, I would feel comfortable in a place like that. I've worn many shoes in my life, some rich and some poor, but never have I felt more special than anyone else. we are all brothers and sisters. As I said before, however, this is barring any unforeseen problems this type of society may have.
