...and ANY animal-based charity I come across. I love helping people, in fact I volunteer an average of about 20 hrs. a week to helping people in need. But animals are something SPECIAL. They don't have voices, they don't have advocates, and they need us. We're the stronger species, so we're supposed to help those who can't help themselves.
To all those who help and support the ASPCA, WWF, and Humane Society, thank you and bless you.

I donate to a few different things. The charities I support most include:
#My local public radio station, KPCC, since it is the only radio station I listen to (and I love sounding smart when I start conversations with "I heard on NPR...").
#ASPCA since I did not adopt my dog and still feel guilty about it.
#Big Brothers Big Sisters because I once worked for the organization and still think it is doing amazing work.
#Domestic Violence Awareness Groups. I answered the YWCA Battered Women's Hotline for a year, and the cause remains incredibly important to me.
There are others that I give to sporadically, but these are the ones that first come to mind.

I donate and do the annual walk for Autism because I have an autistic grandson.
I donate monthly to the United way so that people in need are able to receive help.
I give blood every 3 months at my work where we have 4 drives a year.
I donate at the food bank because I can't stand the thought of children going hungry.
My work does a back back for the homeless school in our city so that the children that live in shelters will have school supplies when they start back to school. So we donate school supplies and pack up each backpack to give out at the school.

When I give money or material support, it's usually to individuals I know who are in need because of health issues, accidents or loss of work. I give to all the kids dutifully filing up to my door for school fundraisers, scouting troops, and sporting teams. Charity begins at home, with my friends and neighbors, with people I work with or shop with.
I also sponsor individuals whom I know who are raising funds by walking, biking, or doing other activities. A friend is riding a 100-mile bike race with his son to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Another friend, one who has fibromyalgia, is walking to raise funds for St. Jude's Childrens' Hospitals.
When I give to larger organizations, I donate my time and talents more than my money. Organizations to which I have given include American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Lions Club International.

I donate to the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association. My family and I also participate in the annual Walk to Defeat ALS in Seaside Heights, New Jersey every May.Â
I donate to this cause because my mother passed away from ALS and the Greater Philadephia Chapter was always extremely helpful during such a difficult time. There is little known about a cause or cure for such a disease. Participating in the walk has always been a special event for my family as we started in 2005 a few months before my mom passed away. Since then, "Team Sharon" has been walking in honor and memory of my mom and in support of other families.
I've donated to other charities as well but this is a major one as it hits so close to home.

I will donate to students who are from poor family to continue higher education. In my country, I know many people who discontinue their studies because of poverty. If such persons finished higher education and get a good job, it will eradicate poverty from his family and his generations. Moreover, these persons in future will help other poor persons as he was helped. This process will continue and it will help lot of people to get highly educated and live a decent life.

My wife and I give to local causes for the most part. We live in a small town and feel it is better to act locally. The firefighters doing fundraisers for new equipment. The kids doing Jumprope for Heart. The church down the road doing a bakesale. (The bakesales kill me. we live near "Church Street" so there's a lot of them.) Schoolkids doing carwashes. After seeing how some larger national charities work, and the profits made by them, we decided that we could help out local folks better. That way, if a profit is made, at least it is kept local and can help the local economy.
That said, the one big exception is Child's Play.
Child's Play provides toys, books, and entertainment products for children's hospitals all over the world. They make no profit, and take no administrative fees. All of the manhours worked are donated. Of all the charities I have researched, Child's Play has the most pure intent, with the most dedicated follow through.

I like to donate a small percent of my monthly income to local animal and homeless shelters. A vast majority of people like to donate to large national and worldwide organizations which is great but I feel that we should be doing our part locally as well...

I've donated items and money to a variety of organizations that assist people or animals, but at the moment my top choice is International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. It has several helpful programs, including a way to help very poor, elderly Jewish people living in the former Soviet Union get food and supplies. So many times, charities for children and rescued animals are very popular and the elderly around the world are forgotten. There's also a way to help some Jewish people living in different countries to be transported to Israel.
IFCJ has a lovely web site full of articles and info, and you can sign up for news emails from them if you want. Here is their contact info:

I donate via Causecast.org and support quite a few organizations.
Why? Because all causes are connected.
