How much of a problem is the male-female ratio on college campuses?

The New York Times thinks it's a big one in this controversial Styles piece:

At my university, women used to say men were like parking spots: all either taken or handicapped (not very nice, I know). Honestly, though, I don't think it's a huge problem. I think if women want to meet men, this is a good incentive to leave the insular little world of their campus and get out into the community: take an art class off campus, just for fun. Join a gym. Volunteer somewhere.

It's sad that these women seem to be trolling bars, hoping to get whatever table scrap they can find. I never settled in college. I focused on my school work, and only dated when someone came along who was worth my time. Grow up, ladies!

I think colleges should accept the most qualified applicants, and those students should focus on their degree. If you're more worried about your social life than your education, drop out and move to some guy-dense area.

I don't think that it is specifically a problem, but I do see how it creates some issues. Even if enrollment was more 50/50 though, another problem would arise; college age men do not have the maturity of college age women. Many women throughout their 20s date men a few years older than them because they simply don't find anyone their age that they'd enjoy being in a relationship with.
