When you are on vacation, do you prefer a busy schedule where you see lots of cool things, or a comfortable seat and a good book?

My wife likes busy schedules and I like relaxing. What kind of compromise should we make?

I think it is important to have both. There are at least two purposes for every vacation: relaxation and enjoyment. I am sure that you and your wife can find a good compromise that allows you to relax and have fun at the same time. Perhaps scheduling activities in the afternoon so you can sleep in during the morning hours would work or something like that.

It depends on where I am. If it is a place I visit often, then I want a laid back vacation. But if I have not been there before, I want to see everything I can. I am into historical places and can spend hours enjoying them.

A laid-back vacation. Always. To me, a full schedule is a major stressor, and I don't go on vacation just to get stressed out again! But if there's a nice place where I can sit and people watch and read, that's ideal. There's plenty of time to see the sights; it doesn't mean I have to be rushing around. Vacations are for relaxation.

I would recommend Punta Cana, DR.

You can do absolutly nothing or take side excursions.

Nothing is set in stone, so you can veg and get-up-and-go on your own schedule.

Best of both worlds.

I'd pick my couch and a good book even. I crave having some uninterrupted reading time. That alone would be enough vacation for me. Even if I did actually go somewhere, I'd enjoy just lounging. I wouldn't need to do much else and it would be so nice to just relax.

With your wife though, you could still figure out some way to have both. There's plenty of time in a day to get out and see stuff and then kick back with a drink and a book and enjoy the night.

Compromise by all means!!! Don't set up a 1 or 2 week tour with all the fancy stops, that will just drive YOU insane, since you like to relax free style. I suggest that you set up several day tours. That way your wife gets to do one or two day tours of where you are, and you can go with her to do things with her (vacations are meant to be spent together after all). But then, set up some relaxation times for yourself, doing whatever it is that you like to do too. If you don't know what I am talking about with the day tours--go speak to a local travel agency, they will provide you with information free of charge, and can show you what I mean. :D
