Is it a problem that Pixar don't have any girls as the star of their films?

Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Toy Story, Up all feature female characters but not one pixar film features a girl in the lead.

Now I hear that they may have one, but she's going to be a Princess.. like all the other 'Disney Princesses' . Why do they feel the need to cheat little girls out of a chance to be in the centre of attention instead of looking in from the sidelines....

I don't feel like Pixar is being sexually discriminating at all. I looked at all the movies starting with toystory and you are right, there are no leading girls. But most had very strong leading ladies that made the picture.

-A Bug's Life had the princess. Without her the movie would have gone nowhere.
-Monster's inc-Boo, Mike's girl friend and the under cover agent
-Nemo- Dora
-The Incredibles-the wife and the daughter not to mention the sexy secretary
-Wall-E -had the robot Eve.

There are strong female characters in all these movies and each one left little girls feeling like they had no limitations.

I took your question to my 16 year old daughter. These were the answers she gave me

My daughter was my 1st source. I asked her if she felt like these movies were unfair not to have girls in the lead.

Actually, with Pixar, you have to calculate all female 'characters', instead of just females. And then, the picture changes.
Wall-E has a big role for the robot EVE. Wall-E falls in love with her, she is both extremely powerful, but also very much caring. She searches Earth for proof of new life (a plant), reports back to Axiom, investigates why the ship doesn't return to Earth, and basically saves the day singlehandedly. Definitely one of the main characters of that movie.

As catt969 said, many of their other movies, and especially 'Incredibles' had one or more lead female characters.

So no, Pixar is definitely not discriminating against the female sex.

But even in Wall-E EVE is a supporting female character. Yes she's important to the story, but the Story is Wall-E's

Dorry is important in finding Nemo, but the Story is fundamentally about Nemo (and arguably about Marlin)

Cars had female characters, but its the Story of how Lightning McQueen learnt that winning wasn't everything. Do you see the pattern here. If oscars were available they would be for best supporting roles.

There isn't a single Pixar movie where the 'star' of the movie is female.
