I am planning to make a spicy pumpkin soup, and would love to pair it with a red wine. Any suggestions?

Well the good news is that http://www.pumpkinsoup.org/ agrees with you and suggests "A glass of fruity red wine would taste good with this sweet pumpkin soup recipe".

I can't imagine anything better at the moment that a Pumpkin Soup with a nice glass of red wine.

I have tried Houghton Cabernet Shiraz Merlot with soup before, it is an Australian wine and costs about $12 per bottle:

Please if you try this or a similar wine let me know how you get on.

After a quick search found the following.
According to the website , http://www.winedin.com/pair_food_wine.php?food=Pumpkin%20Soup,
The best red wine that pairs well with the spicy pumpkin soup is either the Pinot Noir , Gamay or the Bordeaux.
Feel that the Pinot Noir would be great, as I have seen some of my colleagues enjoy that combination.

I'd probably use a California Pinot Noir. If it was a lighter pumpkin soup, a Beaujolais would be nice.
