I made date reservations for a trendy fondue place I want to try. Just found out the girl is lactose intolerant. Should we still go?

Leave it up to her, only she knows how she might feel.

Does she take lactaid or other similar pills before having dairy? Do they work for her? I think these should be the big questions for her

Call the fondue place and ask how much of their menu can be done without dairy.
You can have 'broth' fondues with savory stuff, maybe they have them....there are side dishes and desserts that might be OK
Anyway, best to call them and ask, find out and then see if you can still go - if they have no real alternatives to dairy foods then you might have to cancel .... you could ask her then...gather information first though :)

Fondue isn't just cheese. Call ahead to be sure.

Usually, cheese is certainly a (delicious) option, but there will likely be a couple of different kids of oil, etc to dip and cook your food in.

Dessert is usually chocolate but this might work out well... grab a lactose free dessert and if things go well, tell her that you knew there wouldn't be a lot of dessert options so you have something at your place. :)

If it is only cheese (for some reason) then yeah, maybe hit up a Thai place. Vegetarian and folks with allergies usually like Thai because there are quite a few options.

Yes! Go there for dessert! Order some fruit and dip it in chocolate. Nothing is more romantic than chocolate =)

Probably not a great idea.. her health needs to come first. Maybe ask her what she thinks?

I'd probably be looking for plan B around this point. Japanese may be a way to go as their menu is going to be very low on the lactose.

whilst there are some lactose free fondue stuff that they'll have on the menu, she's going to be a bit stresses at having to pick stuff that she can/might/might not be able to have, and so she'll find it hard to relax and have a good time.

I once had a similar situation with a vegetarian girlfriend.... At a lot of places the choice of food she had was so limited that it wasn't fun going out.. so we had a much better time going to vegetarian friendly places

If this is a first date, I'd find another place. A steak house, Thai or Japanese would all be good choices. If you've been dating for a while, have you noticed what she eats? If you've seen her eat dairy before, she may regularly take lactaid before meals, so it might be ok. If you choose to ask her, just ask if if she likes fondue, and if she'd like to try the restaurant-- don't refer to her lactose intolerance.
