Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
If you were taking your kids trick-or-treating and an adult offered you a Hot Tottie, would you accept it?
I've never heard of this until recently, but I guess some women in the neighborhood (and let's assume you ARE in your own neighborhood) make Hot Totties for the adults and pass them out in paper cups. So should I partake? I do like to drink...and Halloween is a cold night of the year...

Ah, what a way to walk the neighborhood, with a soft warm tummy glow :)
Be responsible, be sensible and be alert.
Sure its OK to have a hot toddy ( English term :) to keep warm just remember not to have too many and to be a responsible carer with the kids - one or two would be OK if you were walking.
Be careful because you don't know the strength of the little cups :)
And what are the instructions from partner or friend or relative? If you are taking the kids for someone else ask them if its OK, if you are giving your partner a break and taking them on your own ask them if its OK and if its just you, then be a good judge of yourself.
And don't forget that alcohol and very cold weather DO NOT MIX very well! If you have to go somewhere later it might hit you as soon as you walk into a warm room :)

If you'd trust them hold your drink at a party then taking a drink they offered is no different. I don't know how well alcohol and escorting children responsibly go together, but if you're not driving and you don't accept a drink from every house (that'd be a sight to see), I guess there's no reason not to have fun while you're out.

Hot Toddy. I know, I know, lots of folks on the internet spell it wrong.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_toddy
I wouldn't accept it because I can't drink. It's not a matter of not wanting to, because I really like to have a drink now and again, at least, I used to. My medical condition, though, is exacerbated by alcohol. Back in the day, I'd drink a glass of red wine with dinner, have an Irish coffee for dessert, maybe some Tequila Rose that i've kept in the freezer for a warm day.
now, a few sips and I am in excruciating pain and my face flushes and turns red and my lips and around my lips starts to tingle and then breaks out in a rash.
No.... alcohol is not good for me, and hot toddies have alcohol.... and other stuff too--including coffee, tea, spices, etc. There's no way to know what goes into them.
For me, I'd politely refuse. I usually can get by with telling folks it interacts with my medicine (which is mostly true too) and they don't push the issue.
Now, if your question is whether or not it's acceptable to have a drink while out and about with your kids? If you're not driving and you're drinking responsibly, there's nothing wrong with a drink in front of your kid.
If the question is about accepting a drink from a neighbor? If you know the neighbor, great. If you don't know the neighbor, the thanks, but no thanks answer is the best.

If responsible parents tell their children not to eat any candy or food that isn't professionally wrapped,
then how can that same adult accept any open drink from a stranger?
If that drink is offered by a friend, then, presumably, most adults can handle a small drink,
though, you'd think that the responsible adult would bring his/her own cup or thermos
of some hot beverage to warm him/her during the usually chilly (at least in the North US) All Hallow's Eve.

Nothing wrong with having a Hot Tottie while trick or treating...
... just be responsible as Halloween isn't about you getting your drink on, but rather your kids getting their treats on!
Oh yeah, check out this nice looking page on How to Make a Hot Toddy!
