A vintage wine is one made from grapes that were all, or primarily, grown and harvested in a single specified year.

A wine's vintage simply tells you which year the grapes were picked.

Almost all still wines come from a single vintage, and the labels on the bottles will show the year in which the wine was made

A vintage in wine making is the process of picking the grapes and then creating the finished product. A vintage wine is one made from grapes that were all, or primarily, grown and harvested in a single specified year. In certain wines, it can denote quality, as in Port wine, where Port houses make and declare vintage Port in their best years. The opposite to vintage wine is non-vintage wine which is a blend from two or more years it is usually produced by wine makers wishing to keep the taste the same over the years.

Vintage is an anglicized word that comes from French word "vendange" which means grape harvest. Vendange is derived from "l'age du vin" or the age of the wine, which starts with the harvest.
