No, he appears to be wrong. While a number of studies were made of brandy and its benefits, it turns out that whiskey has the same benefits. Much of the benefit is from drinking a modest amount of alcohol regularly, which can be of any sort. However, recently it has been found that there is a powerful anti-oxidant in brandy much as there is in red wine. It comes, however, largely from the distilling process. The same anti-oxidant turns out to be in whiskey too!
Not just any whiskey, mind you, but single malt whiskeys distilled the old fashioned way. And the best brandies for anti-oxidants are the best brandies, for more or less the same reason.
Both whiskey and brandy can be abused quite easily, in the English speaking world whiskey is particularly notorious because it is so strong and quite cheap. But if you are talking about modest amounts of high quality brandy or whiskey, well, as they say, name your poison. They both fight cancer.

But better yet, drink good beer. Anti-oxidants, nutrition, and safer to boot.
