Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
Should I serve Halloween candy I love? Or Halloween candy I don't like as much?
In case I have leftovers, should I get candy I don't like as much that will go to waste. Or should I get candy I love that will get used up....at the expensive of thousands of calories on my butt.

I'd just buy an estimate of what you generally go through each year of candy you love. That way your less likely to have left overs.. but if you do they at least are something you'll eat. If you run out just put a sign on the door that says, "All out of candy" or something to that effect.
I for example only get like four trick or treaters each year. Normally I buy about 20 lbs of candy as an excuse to have 19 lbs left over lol This year I'll only be buying one small bag if any at all because that's all I know I'll give away. Since I'm now cursed with gestational diabetes and can't eat the wonderful candies *cries*

Depends on whether you want to eat a lot of Halloween candy not. There are basically two ways to look at this situation:
- YAY, extra candy! I'm going to have it made for the rest of the year! -- In that case, buy what you love, of course.
- Oh crap, extra candy. My diet is going to be wrecked for the rest of the year! -- In this case it's worth it to buy something that you can give away. Perhaps buy something that a friend loves (a friend who won't mind eating all the candy), and give it to that person?

I would buy one of those mix bag type things at Walmart. and then a personal stash. Just throw now or two pieces into each kids bag to make sure its all gone. Also when its getting close to the time YOU are winding down start handing out MORE each time so you can get rid of it all.

Get yourself a little candy but buy the bulk of the candy in something you won't overindulge in. Then, donate the candy that is leftover to either:
1. The troops. (http://www.anysoldier.com)
2. Your Church Youth group.
3. A soup kitchen to go in Christmas baskets/stockings
4. An overseas mission.

I usually am weak-willed enough to buy what I like, knowing I'll end up eating it. I don't get a lot of kids at my house, but it's hard to be sure from one year to the next how many will come and I don't want to be caught short. Most years I have a good bit left over.
One year I caved in when I was shopping and bought my favorites, then during trick or treat I had a sudden attack of guilt and gave it all away to the last kids. The next day I was dying for chocolate and sorry that I didn't keep a stash, so I stole some from my grandkids' bags!

Serve what you like. Variety is the spice of life. This may not always be the best advice, but people still say it for a reason. Nevermind the calories, if you really can't resist share them with guest, at least it's a favorite of your's and they'll remember what you like for special occasions!

I'd recommend donating the leftovers to a local church, office or shelter. If you need to get the candy you like less in order to accomplish that goal, that's the way to go. However, I would probably get what I like, only eat a small amount of the left over pile, then donate the rest of it.

You should get candy you like, since you will no doubt have a couple pieces throughout the night. If you are worried about leftovers, either you or your spouse can take the left overs to work, or you can take them to a church or shelter as @jkepler recommended.
Another way to get rid of leftovers and make you popular with the neighborhood children is to gradually give each child more and more candy as the night goes on. By giving out more candy to each child, you cut down on your own possibility of leftovers. Plus you will be super popular with all the kids that come to your house!
