What exactly is a pluot? Is it a plum?

I picked up several pluots at the market this week, thinking they were plums (they definitely look like plums). When I got home I realized they said "pluot" on the label - they taste pretty much like a plum, but maybe a little sweeter? They are really, really good and highly addictive!

You are right about a pluot being sweet. It was developed in the 1990's by Floyd Zaiger. It is a hybrid of (PLU)plum and apricot(OT). It is sweeter and juicier then either of them.
