For under $35 on Amazon you can get the Rabbit corkscrew. I know this sounds ridiculous, but if you drink wine (or other bottled beverages in need of a corkscrew) with any kind of frequency, it'll change your life!
You position the thing on top of the bottle, easily and smoothly pull the lever down, pull it up just as effortlessly, and the cork is out. You pull down one more time and it pops the cork off the screw. And before taking the cork out you can use the little foil slicer thingie to cut off the foil.
Highly highly recommended -- even for occasional wine drinkers. Great gift, too...
