Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
Wine coolers... what's hot and what's not? (or should that be wine chillers... what's cool?)
What's the best way of chilling a single bottle of a white wine such as Conundrum? Is it best to cool it slowly or is a fast chill ok?
Can anyone recommend a good cooler or cooling method?

The best way to chill white wine is to put it in a bucket with water and ice until it reaches 10°C (50°F). If you want to chill it fast you can add a handful of salt to the bucket but I wouldn't do this since the wine may become too cold which may cause some of the more subtle delicate flavors to become hidden from the drinker.

• Thanks... that sounds like a great plan

The answer by zerlox4562 is spot on.
However, if you are hosting an event and a guest brings a bad bottle of white wine as a gift, that's when you want to chill it as cold as possible. This will make the bad wine tolerable, enabling you to be a most gracious host and not embarrass the gift giver.

Best and fastest way is a product called the Cooper Cooler (www.CooperCooler.com) it will chill from 25C/77F to 11C/53F in 3.5minutes which is a good serving temp for most white wines. If you want it refrigerator cold 5C/41F it will take 6 minutes. It's a versatile unit in that it can chill soda/beer cans/bottles too in addition to 750mL wine bottles. The same company also has a new wine chiller that will fit larger bottles up to 1.5L go to www.VinPodium.com
