I would agree to try something different. I really believe the saying, "variety is the spice of life". In families and within marriages it's very easy to get stuck in a rut. Every day becomes routine. Every holiday is a repeat of the one before. Holidays, especially, lose their magic when you don't mix things up a bit. Most of us can't travel to exotic places for the holidays so why not try some exotic concoctions? A great idea would be to have a Mexican-style fiesta. Christmas in Mexico is one wonderful fiesta after another. A hum-drum family dinner just does not compare!

Usually, the person in the family who is interested to try something different is me! So I'd be glad if my spouse want to do something different. Another thing is that my family is Asian, so we actually don't have "traditional Christmas dinner" in a sense. We are free to try every new meal we want.
Even at Chinese New Year event, we don't follow strict rules to what to have for celebration dinner. Experiments make life interesting.

I would agree to it, because I'm always up for change.

How about a compromise? Make some traditional and some new recipes for a holiday meal. You might try making the new recipes for a weekend meal for just the two of you to see how they taste and how the other person likes the new ones. Better to try first before springing something new on family and friends during the holidays.
However, if you have a problem with it, then suggest instead that 1/2 the dishes are new while 1/2 are traditional.
