At what age did you teach your children how to swim? Did you teach them yourself or did you seek formal swimming lessons?

I love to swim. I took my 6 month old son into the lake with me at every opportunity. He did not learn to swim without water wings until he was 5, but he enjoyed the water. He finally took off the water wings when he decided he wanted to learn to dive.
He later took formal swimming lessons to earn his Red Cross certification.

They were all very young probably 2-3 when they got thrown in the water. This is when children learn the best. Then when they get to about 4-5 they get scared of the water again if you don't keep it up. Made this mistake with the first one so the other two got taken to the Y in the winter so they would remember. All three swim now.
