Chicago will not be hosting the 2016 Olympics. Is this actually good for the city?

According to CNN.com (article here: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/02/chicago.olympic.opponents/index.html), 84 percent of residents didn't want public money being used for the games, and 45 percent didn't want the games at all!

I think its great news for Chicago.... Despite the promises that were made for London 2012 its going massively over budget, the predicted income is going down. The 'legacy' for the future is looking rather shaky as well.

So what London will get is a fantastic couple of weeks followed by years of taxpayers paying the bill and wondering why it was such a great idea.

Chicago should be celebrating today

• I love that you referenced London in 2012. Great job!

No, because the olympics brings in many different people. Every city that hosts them needs that kind of publicity. They bring alot of new faces and sometimes more jobs. There is alot to be said about hosting the olympics.

It is good for Chicago not hosting Olympic since the City and it's country is in deep financial crisis, money should be used to recreate peoples' life and to restore economy and not in name of game or a country's pride. It's like covering a donkey's face with a lion mask.

What, Obama, Momma Obama and Oprah couldn't bring the Olympics home? Well I'll be the infallible couple had a lapse, their string of wins came to an end? Doesn't the IOC know Oprah Windbag is God's gift to the world? They will be smited by the almighty for that slip.

If Chicago has the money to host the Olympics tell them to use it on schools and neighborhoods and not stupid sporting events that cost the citizens billions with no benefit.
