I suppose to some extent we all try to live up to the expectations of us by our parents. some of us do so in more direct and active terms, others do so in passive ways. I fall in the camp of the latter. I still from time to time ask myself what would my mother do when it comes to questions involving financial matters and issues for discretion. I also often ask myself what would my father do in issues that require audacity and reflexive reaction.
I suppose, in that way, I still try to live up not so much to an ideal, but more to the example which they set for me.

No, I tried to and then realised it wasn't for me. I've done enough to satisfy myself and I guess if they were alive they would be proud of what I've accomplished.
I can never live up to one comment from a family member - not a parent. It has haunted me for years and years. It was a good thing to say to me but I've never done it justice. Maybe I will someday, on that I haven't given up :)
