Conundrum Next Conundrum
Do you ever trust large companies to make decisions for you?
Sorry, I understand that this might be a confusing question. Someone else asked about whether or not Acai juice is beneficial for you. Since I have no idea, I stated that I'm going to wait and see if Coca Cola comes out with an Acai product. If they do, I'm in! If they don't, I just saved myself some wasted time. I don't need to think or research when I can just trust them to only jump on bandwagons that justify being jumped on. Have you ever done the same thing?

You mean is Windows 7 good just because Microsoft says it is?
The lazy side of me just takes things at face value. The best advice on these things is to wait 6 months to a year to see if there are any serious problems before buying in.
If it can stand on it's own after 12 months and I need it, then I don't mind buying it.
In the case of food though, because I know what a healthy diet consists of I'm rarely fooled by new sales tactics.
In the case of software, I demo it first. If it makes me money using it then I buy it. If not, I delete it and keep looking.

Nope. Big companies will put profit first before the wellbeing of their customers. That itself is a sign that they might deceive you if they see fit. Previously, there was a commercial where a peanut brand commercialized that their peanuts didn't contain cholesterol. There was outrage and finally the commercial was taken off air because all peanuts don't contain cholesterol and they have misled the customers by making as if only their peanuts don't have cholesterol.

For the most part, I do not trust big companies. They have proven that profit is their only motivator (such as the Ford Pinto disaster). They will sell anything they can legally sell so long as they get a profit from it.
When it comes to my 401k, I do trust a company to manage it, but that's largely out of necessity. I don't know how to manage a stock portfolio, so I leave them to do it for me. I hope that they're buying wisely, because they have some of their own profits caught up in their investments. I hope that my self-interest and their corporate interest is linked. That isn't usually the case with big companies though.
The only thing you can do is research, I suppose, to know if their product and claims are legitimate.
