Do you Google yourself? or are you more like Michael Caine?

Michael Caine said today that he doesn't Google Himself any more.

----quote----
''I Google all day long, because I'm an information freak. I'm always looking for information about something. I do believe that Google was invented for me personally.

''As for Googling myself, I did that once but I gave up. There were seven and a half million sites, so I went 'whoops'.''

---QUOTE--

Do you Google yourself? have you ever found out something interesting?

I google myself, and have been contacted by another gardener by the same name who found me by googling herself. I also subscribe to Google Alerts for my name, and have found some plagiarism.

The most interesting thing I found Googling myself was that someone had posted my complete family genealogy with my date of birth on their site without my permission. I got them to take it down, but that made me aware that you need to delve deep into the results for your own search to find some things. I found this on page 10 of the results.

I'm also a knowledge junkie, and will hear a term on t.v. or somewhere else, and have to go Google it.

Yes I do Google myself. I do it primarily to see how specific articles, sites or posts are doing, whst shows up in searches related to me and so forth. I also subscribe to Google Alerts for my name, so I am notified.

I actually found out that someone was updating a family tree that way and I was able to send along the information about my branch of the family. Otherwise I never would have known that they were looking for us and needed that information.

Yes, Google and all search engines are quiet amazing. I love delving into research for information.

Give me Internet access, and you've given me the world. I can literally find out almost anything with Google. And, I Google myself on a semi-regular basis since I'm a freelance writer. I also Google lines from my work to check and see if I've been plagiarized on occasion, but only when I'm being super-obsessive.

Interestingly, I recently learned that a woman who shares my name has been charged with and convicted of child endangerment and abuse. Luckily, though, she looks nothing like me. I'm much cuter. ;)

I google myself often, though more often my pen name Unwirklich Vin Zant to ensure all my work is being pick up by search engines, that it's not being illegally used, and to see if any one has back linked my work or mentioned it in blogs, etc.

I did find it amusing that when I google my real name my husband's myspace is what comes up and nothing regarding me. I also was just so proud of myself when the other day I went to yahoo my pen name, and it has now become a suggested search when you get half way through Unwirklich. I just thought it was cool to be a suggested search. lol

I do! Haha! XD It's because I want to see if my accounts will show up or know if there's someone talking about me. XD Good thing no one's being mean so far. The stuffs I see are just my blog, some online accounts and school stuffs from my alma matter. :)

Google-ing your self has some advantages too. Like I said a while ago, you'll know the people talking about you online. You'll also see different stuffs like your old online accounts that you've somehow forgotten.

Though it might sound weird but I admit I google my name too. XD

I Google myself all the time. My real name's unique, so all the hits are for me. And I have a reason to Google myself now, because there's this project I released last month that's getting reviews. I am addicted to reading reviews, good or bad. And the sad thing is I have three sets of keywords I search regularly, just to find them.

I google myself from time to time to see how articles are doing. I have found some interesting things while googling my name. While my results had to do with my last name (married name), it was still helpful to find these situations.

One that was kind of sweet was locating a roller skating rink's efforts to locate my father-in-law for a reunion. The rink had closed more tha 30 years ago and I was able to give him some information so he could reconnect with some long lost friends.

It pays to Google yourself now and then.

I do. You have to have a reasonably uncommon name for it to work well. It seems there are only a couple of other fellows with the same name active. One thing that annoys me is a woman out there who uses what are presumably her maiden and married names together that add up to mine. I don't resent the fellows who happen to have the same name but hers seems an artificial irritation, although she probably has her own personal reasons for using a triple barreled name.

I have often found interesting stuff. For instance, I found a European site that had archived a game program that I wrote around 1980 for the TRS-80. And this summer I found my photo on unexpected foreign sites.

Yes, I Google myself. If you don't, you'll never know what's out there. You often find out interesting things, and if anyone ever publishes something negative, you'll know sooner rather than later. I think it's a practice everyone should adopt, just like registering "yourname".com.
