I think it is just terrible the way movies and TV shows have made wicked things out of clowns, such as is shown above.
When I grew up, I loved clowns at the circus shows. They were portrayed properly as funny-looking and were there to make us laugh in between the other circus acts.
There were good laughs for everyone, and the children really loved when the clown would perhaps come over and make a fuss over him or her and maybe bring some candy.
It's a real shame that something so good has been made into something so bad.
What has happened to people's sense of fun??

I have never liked clowns. I never saw them as funny and it really has nothing to do with movies.
I finally have figured out that it has something to do with the "fake emotion" painted on a person's face that bothers me. I am not as leary or scared of the clowns with only a few tears or some very simple thing painted on them as I am of someone in full-face paint. It's the hiding and deception that I guess I pick up on.
And, no, I don't really like those character who walk around in amusement parks either, although that has gotten better since I grew taller :)

I totally agree!!! It's the hidden true expression that is missing from the person's face, and you cannot tell what that person is truly thinking because of the makeup (regardless of whether it's a clown with a ugly expression or just Ronald McDonald). I hate anything that is fake and this one has huge inferences because of the largest fast food retailer using a clown to sell burgers & fries.

Oh they're freakin' terrifying! I think the general assumption is that whatever real man is hiding behind that giant nose and grinning makeup is a generally unhappy man. At best, it's a hungover chain-smoker who stayed up all night watching porn. At worst, it's a psychopath who likes to eat kids or chop them up with a chainsaw.

Never trust a clown. It might be the very last thing you do.

Ever since I was a little girl I have hated clowns. Not feared them, just hated them. I still don't get what's so funny about seeing clowns. Obviously they must be funny, and they must be enjoyed by many; otherwise, the concept would not of had lasted for so long. I however, AM NOT A CLOWN LOVER! I HATE CLOWNS!
