Do you judge people by the phone that they use?

A fairly general survey tries to make some generalizations about what your phone says about you. Is this marketing spin or can you tell something about people by their phone.

I think this is all just marketing spin. I've never made a judgement about a person depending on their phone.

1. It may not even be that person's phone.

2. A new, fancy phone could either mean they're tech-crazed, trend-crazed, or they just needed a new phone and got the nicest they could find.

3. An old phone can mean anything about pinching pennies, not using phones much, or not being tech savvy.

4. A mid-range phone can mean anything in the world.

I just have a hard time seeing phones as a status symbol, especially since they're so rarely seen by anyone ever.

The only exception I'll ever make to my rules, is that I DO judge people I see trying to work new silly technology and struggling with it. Then I think "Oh, just give up and buy a real phone!"

Otherwise it's just all about personal preference and that's it.

I never even look at peoples phones and can therefore not judge them by it. I do however tend to judge on how people use their phones! If they talk to loud in places that it's innapropriate. Or using them while driving without a headset. Things of that nature.

If somebody has an iPhone or a Blackberry or whatever the latest super-expensive phone is, I might note that, just because it means they're either a technophile or a trendophile, or both. But I certainly don't make serious judgments of character based on such a thing. It's a material possession, not an extension of someone's personality.

At the end of the day, a cell phone is a cell phone. My dinosaur little bullet of a cell phone makes calls just as well as the others. And it doesn't have one of those annoying touch screens. (Pet peeve!)

The phone is just an external accessory. It does not tell who the person really is from the inside. Judging the people by the phone that they use is just like judging yourself in a manner that is very unfair.

You are not what you have but you are what is in the core of your being.

I judge myself in the way I relate with others and in the way I live my life. Did I show compassion and understanding when i make judgments on other people? That's the question I usually ask myself when i have to judge others. In doing that, I also become more understanding and compassionate towards myself.

If you are so much after of material things and your world revolves around acquiring more and more of those things at the expense of your relationship with others, you will be judging others by the things they have but not who they are in relation to others. In the same way, that is what you will also do to yourself. What a sad self and life will you be having...

It never even occurred to me to judge someone by the phone they have.
But I do believe that a phone that a person uses could give you some clues about what they are like. Main features such as does it appeal to music lovers (such as the Chocolate phone) or texting or games or business could let an observant person glean a few details about someone's life that others might not.

To a degree, I think I do judge people by the phone they use. I probably don't read into things as deeply as the creators of this survey do, but I think most of us know that a pink flip phone means "fun" and a Blackberry with an unlimited data plan means "business."
