Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
Do you think life would be better if people watched less television?
Due to a variety of reasons I haven't really watched more than a few hours of television this week. It wasn't a deliberate choice, but I don't think I've missed much and have had a lot of extra time to do things.
Would we all be happier if we watched less tv?

Yes, yes, YES!!!
TV is mind-numbing, hypnotic cr-p that should never have been invented, let alone released to the public.
I haven't watched TV for three years and it makes a big difference - I think the biggest thing is that I've lost weight and am now a healthy size because I don't have a reason to be slumped on the sofa for hours on end.
I get a lot more writing done - TV worked to help me procrastinate, which is never a good thing :s

• I'm still watching some TV, but I'm enjoying watching less of it. I appreciate watching the good stuff more and I'm ditching a chunk of the "junk food" TV.
I certainly feel better for it, and am getting much more stuff done...

Not only yes, hell yes. TV is the chief culprit of dumbing down and fattening of America. From moronic network shows, reality shows that defy intelligence, to sports with monosyllabic announcers who butcher english like Ahmadinejad (Iranian President for our TV watching public) butchers logical arguements to families sitting for hours on their asses and not exercising, playing together and conversing.

In theory yes but the reality is TV is here to stay.
Life would be better because:
We'd have to make up our own entertainment
Our electricity bills would be lower
We would exercise more as we'd have lots more free time
We would spend more time talking to our family
We would have less exposure to violence
Life would be worse because:
We would miss all our favorite TV shows
There would be less investment money in sports and other sectors (from TV)
Millions of TV people would be out of work
We wouldn't get access to news/world events as quick
This is just a few thoughts. None of this matters really as TV is here to stay.

People would find other ways to waste their time. I don't watch very much tv at all, and when I do it's in spurts. Without tv I would still be curled up on the couch reading, which is great, but I'm still not *doing* anything. I wouldn't exercise more. =/

There are two sides to the coin. If idleness is the devil's playground, what would people be doing if they weren't numbed by television? There is no way to know if what would be done in lieu of watching television would be good or bad. In some cases, people would spend more time with their families, or find more constructive things to do. In some cases, they might drink more, cheat on their spouses, and beat their children.
For many years, boredom has been the cause of much mischief. It's a known fact that adolescents commit more petty crimes in the summer when they are out of school, or in the after-school hours when there is nothing in the community to keep them occupied.
This could also be extended to adults. If a mildly disturbed person can fulfill their need for violence by watching television, for example, they will be less likely to go out and commit an actual crime to get that same thrill. On the other hand, if watching violence gets to be too little stimulation for them, they may be enticed to get their thrills by actually doing what they have been watching.
Ted Bundy said that he started killing after watching porn wasn't giving him the thrill he wanted. There have been cases where watching violent television or movies, or even playing violent video games has incited people to go out and actually commit the same types of violence in real life.
It all depends on the psyche of the person in question as to how television affects them.
