There have been many newsworthy issues come up because of decisions made in Second Life. Everything from real life cash losses, to attempted kidnapping, to murder. The interaction with people online seems a very healthy thing, and in many cases, it can be. Even to the point of encouraging people who would not otherwise become social people, sometimes learn to go out and overcome their anxieties.
Unfortunately, there is always the flip side of the coin. People will use each other, take advantage of each other. People will abuse the anonymity that the internet provides to get whatever they can. And in some cases, they will react to it as if it is real life, causing real life consequences. When people get so far into the immersive worlds, like Second Life, they can lose touch with the real world, and soon suffer real world consequences of it.
Murder, kidnapping, and other crimes that are blamed on Second Life may have had a beginning there, but there is always more to it. In every case of real world troubles, there is the first mistake made. People share their real world information.
