I think the other answers are missing the question. It's common among some circles to tag people in photos that are random (not them) or in photos that you would rather not be seen in.
1) For the photos that truly are of you, be more careful about what you do, how you do it, and whom you do it with.
2) If it's normal photos of you that you just don't like, I would advise you to be less sensitive.
3) If it's crazy stuff, like tagging a photo of a monkey as you, I would either ignore it or joke about it and let it stand.
4) if it's mean-spirited like tagging you in a photo of a junkie, or some other ugly situation, I would warn them, and if they do it again, I would simply unfriend them.

It may get their attention if you continually untag them, but, if that doesn't work then send a quick message to say you really like the photos but not to tag them because you feel uncomfortable about it.
If they bag you about asking and harass you saying its silly then drop them as a friend.
Otherwise, they should just say OK, no problem. I hope they do that :)
You don't have to give a solid reason, just let them know gently if the untagging doesn't work first :)
Cheers!
